Auckland Architecture

With a current population of 1,556,875, greater Auckland occupies the largest land mass per head of population of any city in the world. The treasure of our wonderful Art Deco and Moderne architecture is scattered throughout this sprawling metropolis. Pressure for housing supply amidst our fast growing city along with the adoption of the Auckland Unitary plan by Auckland Council in 2017, makes the awareness of our Auckland Heritage even more urgent. While examples of these can be found in the central city, many are located in a ring of suburbs which represented the city boundary in the 1930s (these are now considered central city areas).
